Happy Earth Day 2025
It’s been a beautiful Earth Day here in Uganik - replete with humpback whales jumping as they consume herring, pods of sea lions on the prowl for the same meal, a quiet mountainside hike, and a visit to our kelp farm where the blades are growing by leaps and bounds with all this daylight, quietly scrubbing carbon and nitrogen from our ocean. We couldn’t be more grateful to live where we do - in the midst of this 1.9 million acre, undeveloped National Wildlife Refuge - which provides such pristine habitat for everything from our kelp to our seafood to the plants and animals we share this terrain with.
Enjoy this quick panorama of our hike to the top of Uganik Island, with 365 degree views stretching 25 miles to the snowy peaks of Katmai National Park across the Shelikof Strait and the volcano Mount Spurr up the way that is threatening to erupt! We wish all our readers a happy Earth Day and a moment of connection to this wild planet we all call home.
